Germanium Pre Amp/DI
OVERVIEW
Warm, Organic, and Chandler's Most Vintage Sounding Pre Amp Yet!
The Chandler Limited Germanium Pre Amp/DI is a completely new microphone pre-amplifier design by Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke that uses classic germanium transistors in an all class A, transformer balanced circuit.
The use of germanium devices opens a whole new sound palate not found in any pro audio equipment currently manufactured.
These incredibly smooth sounding transistors were the basis of the earliest transistor designs by Neve (1053, 1055, 1057), EMI (TG12345 MKI), Telefunken, and Fairchild. Those familiar with these units can attest to the special sound of the germanium transistor. The GERMANIUM series runs on +40 volt power, high current, and has a huge +34 output before clipping. The sound is warm and smooth, as with many vintage style circuits, but you'll find a whole new world of smooth here, as well as a sound that settles in perfectly to your tracks without fighting. The Germanium uses Chandler's new custom wound transformers that combine the best parts of our favorite St Ives and Gardners input and output transformers.
All Germanium units require and function on the PSU-1, Chandler Limited power supply. The PSU-1 has an internal switch for setting voltage to 120V or 220V (115V/230V). For more information please call us at (319) 885-4200.

TESTIMONIALS
"Suffice to say that the TG2, Germ pre and EQ, and TG1 are there anytime I track drums, TG2 for guitars and the LTD-1 is there whenever I do vocals!"
Chris Day, Plan-D Studios"This album wouldn’t be the same without your products. I've been chasing these sounds for years. After buying the Chandler products (TG Channel MKII, TG-2, Germ Pre) it all fell into place. I think your products just might save Rock-and-Roll."
Gavrièl Pardi, Italy"Your Germ Pre is INCREDIBLE... We did lots of guitars and basses...wow...wow...and once more, wow.... simply infinite tones and every single one is so musical and close to what you want it to be... thank you again...I just wish I had more units of yours, but that won't take long"
Lou, Alberta Canada"I have a lot of mic pres from every kind of angle, from pristine clean to iron to tube and I decided to try one of these Germanium units to see what all the talk was...and holy crap... I was so blown away instantly... no eq...I even forgot to patch in a compressor....and it was polished from the get go... I still hear what I want to hear but it just added so much flavor...Well done gentlemen... Well done!!!"
Trent Thompson (Sweetwater Sound, Inc.)"I thought you'd like to know that one of my Hip Hop clients I sold pair of Germanium pre's to for vocals and DI is blown away! He's a personal studio client of mine from Florida and just called me to say he's literally going back and re-tracking the vocals on every song he's ever recorded because they've made the biggest difference in his sound and performance over every piece of gear he's ever had. You rock brotha!"
Yutaka“It makes me feel very good to have invested in your product. Thank you very much for helping me so quickly.”
Joe Barresi"Wow...... I've never been this excited about a pre amp before. With 1 Microphone and the new Germanium chandler, I got some pretty insane guitar sounds instantly.... from crystal clean with lots of body to pure overdriven hell. Unbelievable flexibility...."
Michael Wagener"It's not only another paint brush, it's a whole paint brush store."
Ross Hogarth"I put on the pad & added the thick and opened the pre up all the way. I got such an explosive sound everybody was S@!*TING. Later, I used it on the Bass rig almost the same way. That f#*!@ng pre has so much character and low-end, I don't know what the hell to say... It is sooooo sick... I need more of these goddamn pre's, it is unbelievable!"
Steve Evetts"Its now a month into using my Germaniums, and words can't describe how amazed I am! I'm blown away on a daily basis. I think the best way to describe these are just "instant cool." They definitely have the 'it' factor sorely missing in most modern designs."
Brian Lucey"Run and buy one... They exceed all the hype in my opinion. The pre is amazing in that FINALLY a guitar amp'd in a room can be bettered without altering the fundamental character of it. Quite a feat IMO, really amazing."
Matthew Sweet"Please tell Wade that I just love my Chandler limiter plug-in, and the germanium i got recently is my favorite preamp ever--just fantastic!!!! Like many recording artists, I work mainly at home these days, and your stuff is absolutely essential in my work. These are modern classics!"
Mike Caffrey"How does it sound? In two words: shizzly dizzly! (That means great for those without the 2005 edition of the Hipster Dictionary). It has its own tone. If you use Neve and API as common reference points, I'd say that it can sound like both depending on how you set the Feedback. With the knob in the 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock range, it has that punchy fast slew-rate vibe of the API. When you turn it up, its more of the classic Neve vibe. However, throughout all this, its fundamental tone is big and round."
Aaron"Man, your GERM preamp is the Holy Grail... run old digital stuff thru it and it miraculously comes back to life... I'm in awe. The XXXXXX used to be my favorite preamp but even the XXXX can't revive dead tracks like the GERM can. IMO you've created the coolest piece of gear ever.
Gearslutz, quote"The options like the feedback control and those switches are really wild too. I still cant believe that it is where it is in terms of price point. I thought this would be 2G's. Thank God it's not though. Especially cuz I heard clips on here where it sounded better (IMO) on the source than the XXXX."
Greg"Thank you. In fact, THANK GOD FOR YOU. I'm serious! No one is making shit like this and it makes me verrrrrry happy."
Marc"All I can say is WOW! I had a single coil Strat sounding like a hollowbody jazz guitar. This thing is really versatile!"
Brandon"Used it for the first time yesterday for male/female vocs, elec gtr. Uhhhhh...Holy shit. Nice job dude. In particular, I have a tube mic that is often a little on the bright side, and dialing the feedback just right doesn't take any clarity from it, but smoothes the highs in just the right way. Much better than using EQ!"
Joel"The Chandler germanium mic pre gets used on almost every session I do these days! Thanks for making a mic pre that can be big, up front, clean, aggressive... It can truly change flavors to suit the session I am in at any given moment. Thanks Wade!"
Andrew"I gotta say man, this thing is INSANE. I was going to buy two XXX. PLEASE never retire."
Tom"I've had the Germ for a couple of weeks, and I've come to the conclusion that something must be wrong with it. I've tried it on acoustic guitar and it sounds great, tried it on electric, same thing. Tried it on vocals, sounds great. Since most preamps usually sound super on some things and not so super on others, I have to assume something must be wrong with mine since it sounds great on everything. However, I've decided not to have you repair it, because I like having one pre that sounds so good on so many different sources...keep up the great work!"
Paul"I just wanted to drop you a quick note and let you know how much I am loving my Germ and TG2. Like most people I am kicking myself for not getting a second. The thick switch is a living breathing entity all its own. I have tracked acoustic guitar, stand up bass, vocals and violin through this sucker (as well as the TG2) all with amazing results."
Luiz"I have received my first two Germaniums, and am waiting for two more. They are PHENOMENAL! Your designs are sensational, man. I must say I couldn't be happier with choosing Chandler for preamps (now you make up most of my arsenal!). Thanks for all the hard work Wade. Most of all, thank you for staying close to your customers. Did you know people are now calling the germs the "Holy Grail" of preamps? I think I also read somewhere the quote "Wade is a f****ing genius!" Get ready for some awards man!"
